What is Lupus Nephritis?

Lupus nephritis is a kidney disease that occurs in about 50% of people who have systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), more commonly known as lupus. When lupus causes kidney disease, it is known as lupus nephritis (LN). It occurs when lupus autoantibodies affect structures in your kidneys that filter out waste leading to kidney inflammation.
